HD only starting with a bit of gas

Post by joel.rice » Mon Jul 05, 2010 5:21 am

Hi all,

I am just wondering if anyone else has experience a similar issue as this; 99% of the time I have to give it a bit of gas in order for it to start. For a single day it started 4 or 5 times in a row (2 turns and it was going). Aside from this one day, I need to give it gas every single time to get it going. I shouldn't have to do this, right? They're fuel injected aren't they?

Kind regards

Joel

My car doesn't start on the first crank when its cold but the second crank it starts straight away with no dramas. and it'll start every time as long as the engine isn't cold.

It could just be something simple.. maybe its the battery? Spark plugs? orrrrr it could be something like fuel pump? maybe needs an injector clean?

as far as i remember EFI cars don't care if you add accelerator or not (could be wrong)

i would look at:
* all suggested above
* vacuum leaks (especially if the big rubber throttle body boot has cracks)
* dirty air-flow meeter

how long do you crank it for? if its sitting there and spinning and just trying to catch, then my call is the battery... i just cured that issue on mine.
