Irvine, Calif. (May 20, 2010) – Insure.com announced this week that the Mazda Tribute i and Mazda Tribute s Grand Touring earned the top positions in the company’s annual list of the least expensive 2010 sport utility vehicles (SUVs) to insure.

Based on a survey of average car insurance rates for more than 2,400 vehicles for the 2010 model year, Insure.com’s "Low Cost Car Insurance Awards" honor vehicles that are the cheapest to insure. The calculations were based on the average annual insurance premiums for a male driver* using car insurance rates from six large insurers in ten ZIP codes per state.

“We are honored to be recognized for producing vehicles that are not only sporty and affordable, but are also inexpensive to insure,” said Tim Barnes, director, product planning and strategy, Mazda North American Operations. “The Tribute is a true Sport Utility Vehicle - a vehicle that combines sports appeal and utility, all for a great value.”

Powerful and economical, the 2010 Mazda Tribute offers rugged good looks and a Five-Star crash-safety rating. Featuring traditional SUV styling, the 2010 Tribute i offers a 2.5-liter iVCT 4-cylinder engine, which produces 171 horsepower and up to 28 mpg. Tribute s features a new 240-horsepower and 3.0-liter iVCT V6. The s models feature a 6-speed automatic transmission (optional on i models) and front and rear stabilizer bars.

Operations in Canada are managed by Mazda Canada, Inc., located in Ontario; and in Mexico by Mazda Motor de Mexico in Mexico City.

* Averages are based on a single 40-year-old male driver who commutes 12 miles to work, with policy limits of 100/300/50 ($100,000 for injury liability for one person, $300,000 for all injuries and $50,000 for property damage in an accident) and a $500 deductible on collision and comprehensive coverage. He has a clean driving record and good credit. The policy includes uninsured motorist coverage.
